Legendary Charley Pride was the first country music black star with one of the hits, “Kiss An Angel Good Morning” which had helped sell millions of records. According to ABC news, Pride sadly passed away due to Covid-19 complications. Dolly Parton stated to ABC news this statement:
"I'm so heartbroken that one of my dearest and oldest friends, Charley Pride, has passed away. It's even worse to know that he passed away from COVID-19. What a horrible, horrible virus. Charley, we will always love you.”
Pride was born in Mississippi in 1934, and was the son of a sharecropper. As the years passed, it wasn’t long until he headed to Nashville in 1963 where he immediately recorded songs where it led to his career taking off. He was signed to RCA records in 1965. Over the years, he skyrocketed to the top in the country music world as well as earning three Grammys throughout his career.
Despite a tragic loss, his legacy of breaking down barriers will forever live on.
You will forever be missed.
